  The many apartments, buildings, and houses owned by South Street Properties are unique, some vintage, historic, cute, and pretty well taken care of compared to other houses down near that area in the student ghetto. Obviously with older houses, there are some weird issues that come up, like no outlets with 3-prong (although there are adapters), old pipes that sometimes clog easy, things that have been painted over probably 100 times, and odd shaped rooms. However, these usually aren't issues that cause day-to-day problems.
  
  South Street is an absolutely beautiful street in all seasons, and truly looks like it's from a postcard after a heavy snowfall or during the peak of the fall colors. Events in Bronson Park, the Kalamazoo Mall, and downtown Kalamazoo is only a short walk away. This makes for an easy trip to restaurants and bars in the area, and is a really nice convenience of the area and these apartments specifically. Southstreet Properties has its own staff for lawn care, common area cleaning (mostly for shared stairwells), maintenance, as well as good relationships with companies in the community for any work needed to be done that the own staff cannot complete. All utilities and fees are compiled by the office into one invoice, which is convenient because the tenant doesn't have to set any of that up (which is usually a big headache when moving into a new place), and it is all on one bill. The only downside is that there is no choice in these fees, and they don't include the actual bills from the companies in your invoice (but I think you can request copies). So if you don't want recycling services to save money, that is not an option. One fee in particular that seemed high for the area was the required $500 cleaning fee after moving out, as outlined in the lease. Especially since we did not have carpeting in our unit, I didn't completely understand the purpose. Other than this fee, my security deposit was returned in full.
  
  Overall, I liked living in the apartment here and it was cool to have the experience to living near downtown for a year during college. It was more expensive than other apartments/townhomes that I've lived in. I think the price is just a compromise for great location and historic home living.
